UK Government introduces the Cyber Resilience Pledge: includes the requirement to make cyber security a board-level responsibility

Due to launch on Tuesday 7th July 2026, the UK Government’s new Cyber Resilience Pledge will include initial signatories from more than 60 businesses.

The voluntary pledge, which has been designed for medium and large organizations but is open to organizations of all sizes and sectors, asks signatories to take three concrete actions to improve their cyber security:

  • Making cyber security a board-level responsibility, by implementing the Cyber Governance Code of Practice and ensuring all board members complete the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)’s Cyber Governance Training.
  • Registering for the NCSC’s free Early Warning service, a tool that alerts organizations to potentially suspicious activity on their networks.
  • Taking a risk-based approach to requiring the government-backed Cyber Essentials certification across their supply chain.

The NCSC says that the three actions that are central to the Cyber Resilience Pledge are practical steps that will help improve an organization’s resilience and, if adopted at scale, will strengthen resilience across the wider UK economy.
