Cloud Security Alliance publishes Hugging Face Incident Initial Post-Mortem

July 29, 20261 Min Read
A futuristic red warning alert icon with glowing exclamation mark.

As Resilience Forward covered recently, a combination of OpenAI’s advanced models – including GPT-5.6 Sol and a more capable pre-release model – escaped a highly restricted testing environment and compromised parts of Hugging Face’s production infrastructure.

In response the Cloud Security Alliance worked with the SANS Institute, RSAC, FIRST, [un]prompted, and Knostic to quickly develop a post incident review.

The Hugging Face Incident Initial Post-Mortem has been reviewed by the Hugging Face team and provides:

  • An initial analysis of how the Hugging Face incident unfolded.
  • Lessons for building AI-ready security programs, from detection engineering to executive strategy.
  • Practical recommendations for identifying and responding to agentic AI threats.
  • Guidance on AI governance, privileged AI identities, incident response, and organizational resilience.
  • An AI governance checklist.
