Our approach
Resilience Forward uses generative artificial intelligence as an editorial support tool. AI supports, but does not replace, human editorial judgement.
A human editor decides what is commissioned, accepted, changed, and published. Resilience Forward retains editorial and legal responsibility for everything published on the website.
How we use AI
We currently use AI to:
- Explore potential new topics and angles;
- Suggest headlines, teasers, summaries or other content ideas;
- Assist with background research and identify areas requiring further investigation;
- Provide daily and weekly monitoring of the resilience landscape to ensure that we provide new information in a timely manner;
- Edit or proofread text for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, and repetition; and
- Support forensic editorial review by identifying possible factual errors, unsupported claims, weak reasoning or imprecise terminology.
AI does not independently decide what Resilience Forward publishes.
Human review and fact-checking
AI systems can produce inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or invented information. We do not treat an AI response as an authoritative source.
All published material is reviewed by a human editor with the authority to accept, reject or change its substance. Facts, quotations, statistics, references, and links suggested by AI are always checked against appropriate sources before publication. In the event that an AI-assisted factual error is identified post-publication, it will be promptly corrected in accordance with our standard editorial correction procedures.
Where AI is used to review material submitted by a contributor, the purpose is to support the normal editorial process. The contributor’s meaning and argument remain subject to human editorial judgement. All contributor submissions are subject to our standard editorial scrutiny for originality, factual accuracy, and depth of insight. While we may use technical tools to highlight potential synthetic text, submissions will ultimately be evaluated and accepted or rejected based on their adherence to our editorial standards, rather than solely on automated likelihood scores.
When we label AI use
Routine editorial assistance applied to human-authored material – such as content improvement suggestions, editing, and proofreading – is not normally labelled.
Where an AI response is reproduced directly, or AI has generated a substantial part of published content, we will clearly identify this within or alongside the content.
Images and other media
AI is sometimes used to create new imagery or edit existing imagery for use with articles. Every AI-created or AI-edited image is reviewed by a human before publication.
As part of this review, a reverse image search is carried out to identify close or potentially problematic similarities with existing copyrighted images. Any concerning match is investigated and the image will not be used unless the rights position is clear.
Reverse image searching is part of our best-endeavours risk-reduction measures. It cannot, by itself, guarantee that an image has no similarity to any existing work or is free from all third-party rights.
Where AI is used to edit an existing image, Resilience Forward will ensure that the original image can lawfully be used and altered.
AI-generated or manipulated images, audio or video will be labelled where their synthetic nature could reasonably affect how they are understood. Resilience Forward will not publish an undisclosed AI-generated representation that could be mistaken for an authentic person, place, object or event.
Data, confidentiality, and intellectual property
We minimise the inclusion of personal data in prompts submitted to AI services. Any personal data processed through an AI service will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection law. We do not input embargoed press releases, unpublished proprietary research, or confidential industry communications into public AI tools that use user inputs for model training.
We will not knowingly use AI to reproduce or publish third-party material in breach of copyright or other intellectual property rights.
Responsible use
Anyone using AI on behalf of Resilience Forward must understand the limitations of the tools being used and follow our requirements for human review, fact-checking, confidentiality, copyright, and disclosure. Staff and editorial team members must only use AI tools and platforms that have been explicitly vetted and approved for use by Resilience Forward to ensure compliance with our security and data privacy standards.
