Australian businesses overestimate their cyber resilience, assuming employees are well-prepared to handle threats when, in reality, many say they lack the necessary training and awareness. This is according to the Datacom State of Cybersecurity Index, which surveyed Australian security leaders and employees to understand organizational cyber security protocols.
According to the index, the majority of security leaders (79%) claim employees are adequately informed about cybersecurity issues and threats, but only half of employees agree (50%).
Other key findings include:
- Cyber burnout is weakening defences. Almost three in five Australian security leaders (58%) report cyber fatigue within their security or IT teams, meaning employees are stressed or constantly under pressure.
- The index highlights a lack of business continuity planning in the cybersecurity space. Only 38% of security leaders have a business continuity or cyber resilience plan in place; and yet nearly all (95%) of security leaders say cybersecurity practices are well aligned to business outcomes.
