Understanding the potentially disruptive impacts of GenAI is a top priority for most organizations

Behind left behind is one of the top business risks associated with GenAI - the picture shows a runner lagging behind in a race.
Behind left behind is one of the top business risks associated with GenAI .

A new report from Appsbroker and CTS shows that gaining a better understanding of the disruptive impacts of generative AI (GenAI) technology is a top priority for 78% of organizations.

Key findings of ‘The GenAI Pulse Check: Are We Ready for the New AI-Enabled Age?’, which gives details from an independent survey of 150 IT leaders, show that:

  • 83% of IT leaders believe that GenAI technology will transform every facet of society and business, with 78% saying that understanding its potentially disruptive impact is a top business priority.
  • Almost 9 in 10 (86%) confirm that GenAI has already started to have an impact on their business, with 41% saying this has been either ‘major’ or ‘totally transformative’.
  • A quarter of businesses are ‘fully embracing’ AI, while 56% say they are ‘interested and experimenting’, and 40% describe their organization as being ‘very well positioned’ to take advantage of the technology.

While there are undoubtedly concerns around the direct threats that GenAI could enable, the main area that survey respondents are concerned about is ‘the risk of inaction’ – failing to quickly understand and act on the transformative benefits of GenAI is seen as a clear organizational threat. 66% of respondents believe that a lack of imagination around what the technology can do will mean their business will fall behind the competition, with 74% worried they will become irrelevant if their organization does not quickly get to grips with the technology.
