Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) International has announced updates to its Professional Practices for Business Continuity Management.
The Professional Practices (PPs) is a long-standing body of knowledge designed to assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of business continuity programs, as well as a tool for conducting assessments of existing programs and the basis of DRI’s business continuity training courses.
DRI International says that the update constitutes an ‘extensive revision of substance, form, and function’ which was undertaken as part of DRI’s ongoing efforts to maintain the relevance and utility of the PPs.
Highlights of the changes include:
- More information on identifying various cyber threats and strategies for remediation by integrating cyber security activities into business continuity management, as well as other data backup and technology-specific strategies.
- Increased emphasis on preparedness and response activities that reflect major events of the past several years, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Inclusion of additional crisis communications systems developed since the last update.
- Elaboration on regulatory agencies and coordination with legal teams.
The titles of four of the Professional Practices have been modified:
- Professional Practice One has been changed from Program Initiation and Management to Program Management;
- Professional Practice Five has been changed from Incident Response to Incident Preparedness and Response to emphasize the activities that are necessary to create an effective response plan;
- Professional Practice Eight has been changed from Business Continuity Plan Exercise, Assessment, and Maintenance to Business Continuity Plan Exercise/Test, Assessment, and Maintenance for consistency; and
- Professional Practice Ten has been changed from Coordination with External Agencies to Coordination with External Agencies and Resources.
The Professional Practices are available in 10 languages and are available here
